ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES

Sethi International Center for Corporate Accountability, Inc. (SICCA) is a non-for-profit public policy research and action-oriented organization based at the Zicklin School of Business, Baruch College of The City University of New York. It is dedicated to enhancing voluntary conduct, accountability and transparency by multinational corporations and other organizations in all areas of their operations and especially as they pertain to corporate governance, sustainable development, fair and equitable treatment of workers, and environment-friendly policies in extractive and natural resource industries.

SICCA Activities and Services will:

  • Assist companies in formulating voluntary principles and standards of conduct that are both economically viable and operationally feasible. At the same time, these principles must also create meaningful enhancements to the lives of workers and protection of the environment in manufacturing, extractive, natural resource, service and other industries.
  • Create and Implement systems and procedures that facilitate objective, verifiable, and transparent measures of compliance with these comprehensive principles.
  • Evaluate a company or an industry's internal systems and procedures for implementing the organization's corporate social responsibility programs and voluntary codes of conduct. To provide confidential assessment as to the cost effectiveness and outcome related performance of these programs.
  • Conduct field audits of corporate facilities to ensure compliance with the company's code in a manner that is completely independent of corporate control, and disseminate these findings to general public.
  • Provide research on policies and procedures, strategies and standards that will assist large corporations, journalists, scholars and policymakers in the rapidly changing areas of working and living conditions of workers in poorer countries, protection of human rights, and harnessing of natural resources with due regard to the rights of indigenous people, environmental protection, and sustainable development.
  • Create informed public dialogue on all aspects of business ethics, corporate social performance and accountability, through cutting edge research, conferences, publications and this website, which is continuously updated with important new information on labor practices, sustainable development, regulation and public policy.
